Bike Month!

It's a month when we encourage everyone to rediscover the sheer, simple joys that come from riding bicycles. There are lots of ways that you can join in this year's Bike Month activities, from joining a casual group ride to gathering for Bike to Work Day. We also have many ways you can win a prize through the Bike Month Challenges. And you can get discounts or free goodies at local businesses just by biking there and showing your I Bike KNX helmet sticker. More details on all of this on our website!

Open Streets Knoxville heads to Bearden!

 

Bike Walk Knoxville is happy to announce that Open Streets is headed west! The first two Open Streets Knoxville were a tremendous success, with thousands enjoying the free games, activities, and demo classes in the street. This time, Open Streets will be in the Bearden area, along a stretch of Sutherland and all of Homberg.

More than 80 activity providers will be on hand, along with dancing troupes and musicians. You can play rent a bicycle, have your child learn to ride without training wheels, try Acro, try a yoga class, and so much more!

Celebrate the joy of bicycling

May! A month when we encourage everyone to rediscover the sheer, simple joys that come from riding bicycles. Bike Month motivates new riders and inspires experienced bicyclists. There are tons of rides, events, and classes happening in May. Our new Bike Month challenges offer you the chance to win prizes!

TN Bike Summit

The 2016 TN Bike Summit on April 22-23 in Chattanooga, TN will feature presentations and workshops focussed on three broad topics: Public Health, Bicycle Tourism, and Infrastructure and Policy. Our keynote lineup features nationally renowned speakers from across the country, and the breakout presentations will feature transportation professionals, officials, and advocates from across all sectors of Tennessee's bicycling ecosystem.

Bike classes for all

Whether you haven’t been on a bike in years, only ride on greenways, or never learned to bike, we have a class for you! Our Open House–style instruction allows you to choose from any of our classes. Bring your kids and your friends —all to the same class!

Open Streets Knoxville Event Planned for October

On Sunday, Oct. 25, Knoxvillians are invited to walk, bike, jog or dance their way through town at the first ever Open Streets Knoxville event. A 1-mile stretch of Central Street, connecting Happy Holler to Emory Place and the Old City, will be closed to all motorized traffic, allowing revelers a day of shopping, playing, exercising and socializing all on foot or two wheels.

National Bike Challenge

The National Bike Challenge is a nationwide event uniting thousands of current bicyclists and encouraging new riders. You can log miles ridden for recreation and transportation. Challenge yourself, your colleagues and the greater community to ride more. Users compete on local, state and national levels. The Challenge aims to unite 75,000 riders to pedal 35 million miles from May 1, 2015 until September 30, 2015.

We celebrated National Bike to Work Day with a free breakfast and awards on Market Square with more than 60 people attending! All day on May 15th, bike commuters could stop by participating businesses in the region for free coffee and other goodies. More info>>

Bike classes

Ride Smart – Urban Biking 101
It's a bike ride and a class all in one! This 1-hour casual ride will teach you where to ride on the road, how to negotiate intersections, and other tips to make you more confident biking in traffic. Email us if you're interested and want to find out when a class is available. $15 fee  

Bike to EarthFest!

Kickstand will be leading group rides to and from EarthFest Saturday, April 18, 2015. The rides will begin at Kickstand and will go to EarthFest at World's Fair Park. The route is less than 5 miles and takes about 20 minutes.

  • Rides will leave Kickstand at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Return trips will leave EarthFest at 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.
  • There is parking available at Kickstand. Come early to have your bike checked out and to air your tires!

Kickstand is located behind Fourth Presbyterian Church, 1323 N Broadway (corner of Glenwood, across from K Brew).
